		<description><![CDATA[Fort Frederick is a landmark in the small town of Frederiksted St Croix.  Built between 1752 and 1760, Fort Frederick stands on a site of an earlier fortification, Fort St James, built by the English during the 1640's. Attacked and captured by the Spanish in 1650, it was later used by the French between 1650 and 1695.   Fort Frederick lent a degree of support to the sugar industry on St Croix, which was to prove to be the island's economic mainstay for over two hundred years.]]></description>
